Among adults with hypothyroidism, 54.2% had a type D personality with high levels of negative feelings and social withdrawal, according to a recent study.

“We think that there are two likely interpretations, which may not be mutually exclusive — type D personality and hypothyroidism share similar underlying causes, or people with type D personality may perceive treatment outcomes more negatively,” Petros Perros, MD, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University and a consultant in endocrinology at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K., said in a press release.

In another top story, researchers found that adults who undergo surgery for hyperparathyroidism do not have an increased risk for fractures compared with healthy controls.

The findings support surgery as an option for adults with primary hyperparathyroidism and hypercalciuria, Martin Nilsson, MD, a research student in the department of clinical sciences at Lund University and the department of surgery at Skåne University Hospital in Lund, Sweden, told Healio.
