A study published in Obesity found that adults who performed physical activity in the morning had a lower BMI and waist circumference than those who exercised in the afternoon or evening.

The findings were “not surprising because the existing evidence suggests that morning physical activity might be more beneficial for weight management,” Tongyu Ma, PhD, a research assistant professor of sports science and musculoskeletal health at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, told Healio. However, more randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the data, Ma said.

It was the top story in endocrinology last week.

In another top story, mean HbA1c for children and adults with type 1 diabetes decreased from 8.7% in 2016-2017 to 8.4% in 2021-2022, according to study findings published in Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics.

Factors that may have contributed to this decline include an increase in the use of diabetes technology and the success of advocacy efforts to support clinic- and state-level policy changes, Osagie Ebekozien, MD, MPH, CPHQ, chief medical officer at T1D Exchange, told Healio.
