The Obesity Medicine Association’s spring conference — Obesity Medicine 2023 — is happening April 19 to April 23 in New York City. This conference is for anyone wanting to begin or advance their obesity medicine knowledge.
Obesity Medicine 2023 will help attendees understand how to treat obesity at the root to manage patients’ obesity-related conditions. Sessions include everything from obesity and mental health to pharmacotherapy treatment for obesity.
Pre-conference sessions
Attendees can customize their conference experience by registering for the main conference, Spring Obesity Summit, and adding on one of three pre-conference sessions: Review Course for the ABOM Exam, Fundamentals of Obesity Treatment and Practicing What We Preach — Your Role as an Obesity Medicine Specialist.
The Fundamentals of Obesity Treatment and the Review Course for the ABOM Exam sessions at Obesity Medicine 2023 will contain the most up-to-date content to help you get the most out of your pre-conference experience.
I am excited to be one of the speakers for the session “Practicing What We Preach — Your Role as an Obesity Medicine Specialist.” In collaboration with the PeerView Institute for Medical Education, we will guide this workshop on practical strategies for treating obesity consistent with the most recent evidence and according to current clinical guidelines.
Featured speakers
We have two featured speakers at Obesity Medicine 2023.
Elizabeth Paul, a member of the Obesity Action Coalition, is giving a talk titled “The Stigma Barrier: The Effect of Internalized Weight Bias on Patient Obesity Care.” In her session, Paul will describe her experiences living with obesity, including her journey to overcoming internalized weight bias. This session offers the patient perspective on weight bias and will help clinicians develop empathy for their patients by sharing their points of view.
Kevin D. Hall, PhD, of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the NIH, will present “The Calculus of Calories: Quantifying Body Weight Regulation in Humans.” Hall will provide up-to-date industry knowledge on the physiology of human body weight regulation and how our bodies adapt to various changes in diet. He will discuss body weight regulation concerning calories, carbs vs. fat, and differences in diet quality.
