Top in hem/onc: Proton pump inhibitors; hair-straightening products and cancer risk

A recent meta-analysis revealed a significant association between proton pump inhibitor use and gastric and liver cancer.

The findings were presented at the World Cancer Congress. It was the top story in hematology/oncology last week.

Another top story was about a study that found chemical hair-straightening products significantly increased the risk for uterine cancer. Researchers found no significant association between other hair products — such as dyes, permanents, bleach and highlights — and uterine cancer risk.
