Top in ID: Circulating poliovirus in New York; CDC monkeypox vaccine equity program
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced a state disaster emergency due to poliovirus detected in the wastewater samples of several counties in the state, as well as New York City.
This polio detection, in addition to the recent case of paralytic polio in New York, were enough to meet WHO’s definition of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus, according to the CDC. The state’s focus now shifts to expanding vaccination and reducing exposure risk for unvaccinated populations. It was the top story in infectious disease last week.

Another top story was about the launch of a monkeypox vaccine equity pilot program by the CDC. The goal of the program is to extend vaccination to communities who are most at risk.
