Data from the FDA Adverse Reporting System revealed an association between the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and the onset of acute cholecystitis.

Researchers found 36 cases of acute cholecystitis that were linked to GLP-1 receptor agonists, which led to serious outcomes like the development of pancreatitis, liver necrosis and even death. It was the top story in endocrinology last week.

Another top story was the FDA’s device designation for a bone fragility measurement tool for older women. The clinical tool is being used to identify women aged older than 70 years who are at risk for fracture and allows those patients to receive treatment to prevent fragility fractures.
