CHICAGO — During her talk at the Women in Medicine Summit, Kimberly Manning, MD, FACP, FAAP, discussed the importance of personal reflection and how self-love helps “fan our own flames.”

“It was a talk I wish I heard years ago,” Manning, who is a professor of medicine in the division of general internal medicine and associate vice chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Emory University School of Medicine, told Healio.

She encouraged attendees to reflect on their purpose in life and to use their strengths — which she referred to as their metaphorical “Whitney Houston singing voice” — to elevate themselves and others.

“I really charge the people here at the summit to ask yourself, ‘What is my Whitney Houston singing voice? What is that thing that, if I wasn’t doing it, it would shortchange the world?’”
