Boston Children’s Hospital topped the U.S. News & World Report list of the country’s best children’s hospitals for a 9th year in a row.

The publication said the rankings were based on clinical outcomes, efficient coordination of care and providing care-related resources. More than 5,000 pediatric specialists were also surveyed regarding which 10 hospitals they considered the best in their respective specialties.

Rounding out the top five were Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., in that order.

Boston Children’s President and CEO Kevin B. Churchwell, MD said in a statement that the last few years were “extremely challenging, not just for hospitals, but for everyone.”

“This ranking is a testament to the extraordinary work and resolve of our entire Boston Children’s family and a tribute to their dedication to the patients, families and communities we are privileged to serve,” Churchwell said. “We are honored to be recognized again as the nation’s leading children’s hospital, and we are proud of our unwavering commitment to improving and advancing the health and well-being of children — everywhere and every day.”

In addition to the best all-around hospital, Boston Children’s placed first in specialty rankings for cancer, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology. First-place choices in other specialties included Texas Children’s in cardiology and heart surgery as well as pulmonology and lung surgery, CHOP in diabetes and endocrinology, Children’s National in neonatology, and Cincinnati Children’s in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery.
