A presenter at Digestive Disease Week reported that gallstone disease may be a predictor of pancreatic cancer.
According to Teviah E. Sachs, MD, MPH, an associate professor and chief of surgical oncology at Boston Medical Center, data have shown that patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma are more likely to have had cholelithiasis or cholecystitis in the year before diagnosis compared with the general population. A review of the data was the top story in gastroenterology last week.
The second top story was about the FDA approval of Dupixent (dupilumab, Sanofi; Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) for eosinophilic esophagitis. It is the first drug in the U.S. specifically indicated for the treatment of this condition, according to the FDA.
