CHICAGO — In this video, Chris Knight, MD, FACP, and Adelaide McClintock, MD, both of the division of general internal medicine at the University of Washington, discuss highlights from their talk at the ACP’s Internal Medicine Meeting on updates in ambulatory care.

Many of these updates were related to cardiovascular care, including new data showing the benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with heart failure, the use of left atrial appendage closure devices to prevent clot formation and stroke, and a rhythm-control vs. rate-control strategy in people with early atrial fibrillation.

Knight and McClintock also discussed a combination polypill for patients with hypertension, statin discontinuation, tapering opioids and updated guidance on asthma medications, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis management and when to use imaging for diverticulitis.

“This is the fun part of being an internist,” Knight said. “This could be a single day in my own practice.”
