CHICAGO — In this video, Rajesh K. Garg, MD, the director of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, discusses three evolving areas in diabetes management: glucose goals, treatment and devices.

Garg, who is also a professor of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, said that “no hemoglobin A1c goal fits all patients.” Individualized targets should be based on the duration of diabetes, age and life expectancy, comorbidity, CVD, hypoglycemia unawareness and other individual patient considerations.

Some other exciting updates, according to Garg, include promising data on weekly insulin, the cardiovascular benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 agonists, continuous glucose monitoring devices, and more.
