Top in GI: Updated Barrett’s esophagus guidance, rise in alcohol-related hepatitis
The American College of Gastroenterology recently revised its clinical guidelines for Barrett’s esophagus.
The updates broaden acceptable screening modalities to include nonendoscopic methods, liberalized intervals for screening and volume criteria for therapy centers. A review of the guidance was the top story in gastroenterology last week.

The second top story featured an interview with Steven L. Flamm, MD, chief of the hepatology program at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, about a rise in alcohol-related hepatitis amid the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing investigations into promising new treatments.
