NEW YORK — In this video, David W. Kimberlin, MD, the program director of the Infectious Diseases in Children Symposium, discusses important changes in the AAP’s 2021 Red Book.

Kimberlin — the Sergio B. Stagno, MD, endowed chair in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama and an editor of the Red Book — said “every single chapter has been modified since the 2018 edition.”

Most importantly for busy pediatricians, he said, is “an attempt to make information more rapidly retrievable,” as well as a new systems-based table that can help providers determine which bacteria are the most likely cause of an infection and to easily retrieve more information about those pathogens.
