Mayo Clinic again named best hospital in US

Mayo Clinic has been ranked the No. 1 hospital nationwide by U.S. News and World Report, the fifth consecutive year that the hospital in Rochester, Minn., has received the top spot on the publication’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll list.
“To be ranked the No. 1 hospital in the nation for 5 years consecutively is a testament to the excellence of our remarkable staff, who put our patients' needs first — even, and especially, during a pandemic," Gianrico Farrugia, MD, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic, said in a press release. “We are grateful for this recognition as we know patients and their families turn to rankings like these when they are deciding where to go for care, and we do want them to come to Mayo Clinic for their complex or serious care.”
Cleveland Clinic was No. 2 and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore was No. 3 on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll list. Overall, 20 hospitals were included on the list “for delivering exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care,” according to U.S. News:

- University of Michigan Hospitals-Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor
- Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston
- Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California
- Mount Sinai Hospital, New York
- Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian, Philadelphia
- Mayo Clinic-Phoenix
- Rush University Medical Center, Chicago
- Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis (tie)
- Keck Medical Center of USC, Los Angeles (tie)
- Houston Methodist Hospital
U.S. News also compared more than 4,500 medical centers in 16 specialties and 10 procedures and conditions across the U.S. The data were not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which began after the data-collection period, according to a press release.
In the specialty rankings, hospitals that ranked No. 1 included:
- University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, best hospital in cancer care;
- Cleveland Clinic, best hospital in cardiology and heart surgery;
- Hospital for Special Surgery, best hospital in orthopedics;
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, best hospital in diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, gynecology, nephrology and pulmonology;
- Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, best hospital in neurology and neurosurgery, psychiatry and rheumatology; and
- Bascom Palmer Eye Institute-University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, best hospital in ophthalmology.
