Welcome to Inside Healio

This is a David vs. Goliath story. At Inside Healio, we hope to give you a look behind the curtain at how one of the last family-owned medical media companies in the United States translates their traditional specialty physician niche to success in the digital landscape.
The landscape is littered with the remains of once-proud, print-centric brands that did not navigate the sharp turn to digital, have been gobbled up through mergers and acquisitions or are simply no longer around. What is left are those doing the gobbling; for the most part, billion-dollar public companies, global media giants and venture capitalist (VC) backed start-ups.
Success of Healio.com
That is not us. We are doing just fine, thanks for asking. Month after month, Healio.com continues to attract more visitors, serve more pageviews and increase our active user base (AUB) of physicians. The number of activities and test takers on Healio CME is growing, too. Healio News continues to attract new advertisers and clients. By all measures, the Healio web platform is a success.
So, why change anything? The answer to that is what this blog is about. We’re preparing for the launch of Healio Version 5.0, the most significant change to Healio since our initial launch in spring 2012. New tech, new look, new navigation and functionality, new personalization and customization options. It all adds up to a whole new user-focused experience. Right now, as we’re in the thick of the launch, seems like the time to tell our story.
Healio Version 5.0
Look for Healio CME to launch in fall 2019, Healio News in spring 2020 and Healio Journals later in 2020. We’re excited to share with you as we bring Healio 5.0 to life, including our philosophy and lessons learned along the way. This blog is for you:
- If you are a Healio user and/or one of our outstanding professional contributors or Editorial Board members, thanks for your interest;
- If you are one of our valued advertisers or clients, thanks for your support. You help make Healio possible;
- If you are in the business, let’s compare notes; and
- If you are an employee of a Wyanoke Group company, well, “You Are Healio!”
Healio is 300 employees across five Wyanoke Group companies. We don’t all think alike and we have “lively” debates and discussions. But in the end, we are all committed to making Healio the best specialist-oriented medical web platform available. So, it is my intent to name drop a lot, feature guest bloggers when possible, and represent a diversity of voices and opinions within the Healio-sphere. I hope you’ll enjoy it and come along for the ride.
As our friend Michael D. DePaolis, OD, FAAO, Editor of Primary Care Optometry News, likes to say, “Don’t be afraid to call our baby ugly.” We welcome your feedback. Please use the handy comment feature below to ask questions, suggest topics, disagree (politely) or otherwise chime in. I look forward to the conversation.
