VIDEO: Top takeaways from ACP Internal Medicine Meeting

PHILADELPHIA – Highlights from this year’s American College of Physicians Internal Medicine Meeting included “practice-changing” information related to gastroenterology, infectious diseases, medical marijuana, allergies, rheumatology and arthritis, according to Healio Primary Care Today board member Alan Dow, MD, MSHA.
In this video interview, Dow, assistant vice president of health sciences for interprofessional education and collaborative care at Virginia Commonwealth University, discussed six sessions that he felt contained information to implement in clinical practice immediately:
- the link between iron deficiency and celiac disease in some patients;
- potential new treatment options for patients with recurrent UTI;
- interactions between warfarin and marijuana;
- penicillin allergy may dissipate over time;
- patients with steroid-resistant vasculitis should be assessed for cancer; and
- ways to identify some types of inflammatory arthritis.
