PHILADELPHIA – Clinicians should consider nonpharmacological options when managing geriatric patients with advanced dementia, according to a presenter at the American College of Physicians Internal Medicine Meeting.

“Always think about deprescribing and the indications for that when the time comes for medication management,” Audrey Chun, MD, a geriatrician with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told Healio Primary Care Today.

For patients with issues eating, Chun recommended hand-feeding “and a lot of patience” over enteral feeding.
