AANP inaugurates Joyce Knestrick as new president

PHILADELPHIA — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners has sworn in Joyce Knestrick, CRNP, FAANP, as the organization’s new president. The announcement came during the group’s annual conference.
According to a press release, Knestrick has two decades of experience as a family nurse practitioner in both urban and rural areas, and has held several health care positions, including family nurse practitioner, nurse manager and a registered nurse in critical care, medical surgical, pediatric, and long-term care settings. She has also taught bachelor, master and doctorate level courses and, according to the release, “has been a pioneer in organizational leadership and distance education for [nurse practitioners (NPs)].”
“AANP has always empowered NPs to serve patients everywhere through not only practice but also education, research, advocacy and leadership,” Knestrick said in the release. “I ... take the helm as president at a time when there are more opportunities for NPs than ever before. I look forward to working with our members nationwide to champion patient access to high-quality, affordable, NP-provided health care.”
The release stated that Knestrick officially assumes the presidency on Sunday, June 25, the last day of the 2017 conference. – by Janel Miller
