SAN DIEGO — Volume resuscitation, early empiric antibiotics and treating the source of infection are critical in sepsis treatment, according to a presenter at the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting.

Atul Malhotra, MD, chief of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the University of California, San Diego and past-president of the American Thoracic Society, also discussed other critical care topics, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, antibiotic misuse and depression among caregivers and physicians of critically ill patients.
