WASHINGTON — Michael Blaivas, MD, professor of medicine at the University of South Carolina, discusses the expanding role of ultrasound for internists and hospitalists at the annual meeting of the American College of Physicians.

“It’s great to see more and more internal medicine physicians from various backgrounds getting interested in ultrasound,” Blaivas said.

Blaivas also discusses some clinical pearls related to the application of ultrasound in practice, including the importance of scanning all possible sources of hypotension and increasing the safety of ultrasound-guided central venous access.
