The University of Washington, in Seattle, has been named the best family medicine program in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, as part of its 2017 ranking of the nation’s top medical schools.

The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Medical Schools survey also ranked the University of Washington’s primary care department and rural medicine program both as No. 1 in the country. The school has held the top spot in the primary care rankings 22 times in the past 23 years. Its rural medicine and family medicine programs have also led the nation in those rankings since they began in 1992.

“These rankings underscore yet again the outstandingly high quality of our medical education and nursing programs, and the invaluable service they provide in training health care providers for our state and beyond,” Ana Mari Cauce, PhD, University of Washington president, said in a press release. “And I couldn’t be prouder of the number and breadth of graduate programs ranked among the best in the country — from public affairs and education, to the STEM fields, humanities and the arts. We have an amazing faculty and students coming together as a community of scholars to extend the reach of our knowledge.”
