The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been ranked the nation’s top hospital in neonatology for a second year in a row, according to the 2015-2016 edition of “U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals” survey, released this morning.

“We are once again honored to be included among the nation’s best children’s hospitals. The level of clinical excellence among the hospitals evaluated makes our inclusion all the more meaningful and I am proud of our dedicated and talented physicians, nurses and clinical support staff for their efforts on behalf of our patients,” Steven M. Altschuler, MD, chief executive officer of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said in a press release.

In addition to grabbing the top spot in neonatology for a second year in a row, CHOP ranked No. 1 for orthopedics, No. 2 for urology, diabetes and endocrinology, No. 3 for pulmonology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, cancer, neurology and neurosurgery, No 4. In cardiology and heart surgery, No. 6 for nephrology and second overall best children’s hospital in the nation.

In neonatology, the top ten from the report also included:

  1. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  2. Boston Children's Hospital
  3. Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital
  4. Children's National Medical Center
  5. Seattle Children's Hospital
  6. Children's Hospital Colorado
  7. Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital-Prentice Women's Hospital
  8. Children's Hospital Los Angeles
  9. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
  10. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

This year’s report, which is its ninth annual, rated 184 children’s hospitals on clinical outcomes, efficiency, delivery of care, compliance with best practice policies, infection control and care-related resources, including ample nursing staff and availability of programs tailored to specific conditions. Additionally, nearly 2,800 pediatrics specialists ranked their considerations for the top 10 best children’s hospitals in their specialty, without regard to location or price.

“There is nothing more overwhelming for parents than finding care for a child with a rare or life-threatening condition. We hope the Best Children’s Hospitals provides a good starting point for research and helps make a family’s search for the best care for their child a little easier,” Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor, said in a press release.
