This week the Department of Health and Human Services unveiled a consumer-focused version of the HealthCare.gov website and launched a toll-free 24-hour consumer hotline to help small business owners and individuals who cannot get health insurance at work prepare to shop for health plans through the new health insurance exchanges, or health insurance marketplaces. The website will allow consumers to compare plans available in their state as well as determine their eligibility for federal financial assistance.
The exchanges, which are the centerpiece of President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, will begin open enrollment on Oct. 1 with coverage beginning Jan. 1.
