Children with HIV show poorer neuropsychological performance
Children who were perinatally infected with HIV showed poorer scores on tests measuring cognitive ability, attention and motor function than their uninfected peers, according to results from a 2-year study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
Maternal fluconazole use slightly increases congenital heart defect risk: Meta-analysis
The administration of oral antifungal agents fluconazole and itraconazole during pregnancy was not associated with an increased risk for birth defects overall, but researchers did find that it was associated with a “possible” increased risk for specific birth defects, according to a systematic review and meta-analysis published in International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics. For example, according to researchers, children born to women who used oral fluconazole during pregnancy were at a slightly increased risk for heart and limb defects.

Children who are exposed to chemicals in the womb may face a range of neurodevelopmental and other health risks as they mature. For example, new research shows that prenatal exposure to common household products can negatively impact a child’s IQ.
Study identifies two distinct subgroups of SUIDs that differ by age
Cases of sudden unexpected infant death, or SUID, that occur at 0 to 6 days differ significantly from cases that occur at days 7 to 364 in regard to factors like live birth order and marital status, according to study results published in Pediatrics.
