CDC: 1,754 new cases of influenza confirmed during influenza season week 3
During influenza season week 3, from Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, 1,754 of 5,823 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 14,806 since Oct. 3, according to the CDC’s weekly FluView report.
CDC: 1,288 new cases of influenza confirmed
From Jan. 9 to Jan. 15, 1,288 of 4,983 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 11,425 since Oct. 3, according to the CDCs weekly FluView report.

During influenza season week 1, from Jan. 2 to Jan. 6, 706 of 4,331 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 8,764 since Oct. 3, according to the CDC’s weekly FluView report.

During influenza season week 52 (December 26January 1), 995 of 4,911 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 6,611 since October 3, 2010, according to the CDCs weekly FluView report.
CDC: 689 new cases, one pediatric death confirmed during influenza season week 51
During influenza season week 51 Dec. 19 to Dec. 25 689 of 3,284 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 4,864 since Oct. 3, according to the CDCs weekly FluView report.

Adjuvanted split-virus H1N1 vaccine elicits better response vs. whole-virus vaccine
Based on the results of the first head-to-head comparison of two 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccines in adults, increased immunogenicity was observed for the adjuvanted split-virus H1N1 vaccine when compared with the whole-virus vaccine. Conversely, the adjuvanted vaccine was associated with more systemic and local adverse events.

During influenza season week 49 (Dec. 5-11), 363 of 3,295 specimens tested by WHO and the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System were positive for influenza, bringing the total number of influenza cases to 2,807 since Oct. 3, according to the CDC’s weekly FluView report.
