4-year-old male presents with discrete, annular lesions around both ankles
A 4-year-old male with a past history of moderately severe eczema and asthma, presents with the onset of some discrete, mildly painful lesions about both ankles. The next morning, a few more individual lesions were seen scattered about his body, many with a blistering component. After 7 days of an increasing number of lesions, the discomfort associated with the lesions became significant, and the child was admitted from the ED for evaluation and management.
A 13-year-old boy presents with a black lesion on his heel
A 13-year-old boy presented to the pediatric dermatology clinic for evaluation of a black lesion on the back of his right heel that had been present for at least the past couple of weeks. Parents are concerned that it may have been present longer but has gone unnoticed. The lesion is asymptomatic to the patient, and he has continued his normal regimen of basketball practice three times per week.

A previously healthy 13-year-old male experienced sudden-onset of some painful swelling with erythema about the left ankle. He denied any trauma, or stings, but has had common summertime insect bites with some scratching.
7-month-old female with petechiae, purpura on the legs
An otherwise healthy, 7-month-old girl presented to the pediatric ED with new-onset lower extremity petechiae and purpura. Her parents reported no recent illness, fever or changes in activity or appetite. The child is up to date on her immunizations, and her parents have denied any history of trauma or restrictive diets. There was no family history of bleeding disorders or connective tissue disorders. The child’s mother does report a recent history of postpartum depression.
Severe atopic disease, sleep disturbances linked to sedentary behavior in children
Severe atopic diseases — including asthma, eczema and hay fever — in conjunction with sleep disturbances were associated with a higher risk of sedentary behaviors among children, according to study results.

The FDA has approved Differin gel 0.1% for over-the-counter acne treatment for people aged 12 years and older, according to a press release from the FDA.
Outcome similar when topical steroids applied to wet vs. dry skin for AD
Application of topical corticosteroids via the “soak and smear” technique showed no improvement compared with application to dry skin for the treatment of recalcitrant atopic dermatitis in children, according to a recent study.
