6-week-old girl presents with a rapidly enlarging red plaque on forehead
A 6-week-old girl presented for evaluation of a red plaque on her forehead that started as a red-purple patch when she was aged 2 weeks, then quickly became larger and more raised over several weeks. The lesion was asymptomatic and did not bleed, but had developed some central crusting. Birth history was notable for a spontaneous vaginal delivery at term complicated by preeclampsia; the patient’s mother was 37 years old at the time of birth. The patient met all of her developmental milestones and had no other significant past medical or family history.

Elevated waist-to-height ratio associated with pediatric psoriasis
Children with psoriasis were more likely to have elevated waist-to-height ratios compared with those with noninflammatory skin conditions, while the two cohorts did not significantly differ in metabolic syndrome or BMI-determined obesity, according to recent study data.

13-year-old female presents with vaginal mucosa inflammation, ulcerative lesions
A previously healthy 13-year-old female had the recent onset of a low-grade fever with some dysuria and vaginal itching with pain. She is not sexually active, denies trauma or abuse, has never had a urinary tract infection and noted no other complaints. However, further history revealed that she may have had a previous episode of a similar complaint within the last year that lasted about 5 days, but she was not evaluated or treated.
Survey finds children with eczema have been bullied, have lower self-esteem
The National Eczema Association has released results of a survey of patients with eczema and their caregivers that found that at least one in five children with eczema, including atopic dermatitis, will be bullied at school because of the disease, according to a press release.
Risk factors may predict persistent atopic dermatitis in children
Childhood atopic dermatitis subsides by adulthood in most cases; however, clinical factors such as already persistent disease, later onset, and/or more severe disease increases the risk for persistence, according to recent study results.
