ORLANDO — In this Healio video perspective, Matthew M. Davis, MD, MAPP, discusses the focus on children’s mental health care and the role of AI in pediatric care at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition.

“Pediatricians are really on the frontlines of supporting children and their parents as they come out of the pandemic and are concerned about mental health questions,” Davis, executive vice president, physician-in-chief and chief scientific officer at Nemours Children’s Health, told Healio. He added that the conference featured many suggestions on how pediatricians and parents can support the mental well-being of children.

AI was another emerging theme at this year’s conference, Davis said, adding that parents are concerned about the role of AI in emergency situations and want to ensure that physicians are not dependent on AI to make medical decisions.

“How is artificial intelligence going to be combined with human intelligence to make the best decisions in children’s care?” Davis said.
