NEW YORK — In this video from the Infectious Diseases in Children Symposium, Peter J. Hotez, MD, PhD, professor of pediatrics and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, discusses the rise and danger of the anti-vaccine movement in the United States and globally.
Being a father of an adult daughter with autism has put Hotez “front and center of a very provocative and interesting discussion about the safety of vaccines,” he said.
In recent years, the anti-vaccine movement has “morphed” from a smaller fringe group into a larger movement, its messages “amplified” by social media, according to Hotez.
