Speaker: Reduced urinary, delirium issues are among benefits of early hip fracture surgery
PHOENIX — At the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting, here, investigator and cardiologist Philip J. Devereaux, MD, said accelerated surgery that occurred within 6 hours of a low-energy hip fracture was not associated with any lower risk of mortality or any fewer major complications than standard hip fracture care, which involved surgery performed 24 hours after the fracture.

Twelve months after treatment, there was no correlation between precise restoration of the wrist anatomy and better patient-reported outcomes in older patients who had distal radius fractures, according to study results.

Although nonoperative treatment of distal radial fractures in patients 65 years of age and older yielded a significant decrease in 1-year upper extremity-specific complications, published results showed operative treatment was associated with a reduction in malunion.
