Although open reduction and tunneled suspension device fixation achieved anatomical reduction and functional outcome among patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocations, results published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery showed the fixation was not superior to nonoperative management at 1 year postoperatively.
Two or more corticosteroid injections prior to rotator cuff repair may increase revision surgery risk
According to recently published results, there was no association between a single shoulder corticosteroid injection within 1 year before rotator cuff repair and increased risk for revision surgery. However, there was an association between two or more injections and an increased risk of subsequent revision surgery.

Should metal hypersensitivity skin-patch testing be included in the usual preoperative total joint arthroplasty work-up?
I do not include metal sensitivity testing in the preoperative evaluation of patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty. Given the increased use of ceramic heads, most total hips implanted in the U.S. today are nickel-free. The issue is more about total and unicompartmental knees, most of which have a cobalt-chromium-nickel alloy femoral component. Further, there is a higher rate of “unexplained dissatisfaction” with total knee arthroplasty.
Outpatient TSA yielded lower costs vs inpatient surgery
CHICAGO — Results presented at the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Annual Meeting showed significantly lower costs related to outpatient total shoulder arthroplasty when compared with inpatient total shoulder arthroplasty, even after excluding costs related directly to hospital accommodations.
