Although open reduction and tunneled suspension device fixation achieved anatomical reduction and functional outcome among patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocations, results published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery showed the fixation was not superior to nonoperative management at 1 year postoperatively.

He said reducing rotator cuff tears is similar to reducing a fracture and that surgeons need to recognize tear patterns. I do not include metal sensitivity testing in the preoperative evaluation of patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty. The issue is more about total and unicompartmental knees, most of which have a cobalt-chromium-nickel alloy femoral component. Further, there is a higher rate of “unexplained dissatisfaction” with total knee arthroplasty.
