ASSH releases firework safety tips to reduce injuries
Although fireworks can be an enjoyable addition to many celebrations, operators and spectators can be at risk for burns and blast injuries, as well as soft tissue and bone damage that may require amputations, multiple surgeries and hospitalizations. To help reduce the risk of injuries from fireworks, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand released a position statement warning of the dangers associated with fireworks.
FDA grants permission to market artificial intelligence algorithm to help providers detect wrist fractures
The FDA announced it has granted Imagen permission to market OsteoDetect, a type of computer-aided detection and diagnosis software that can detect wrist fractures in adult patients, according to a press release. The software is intended to be used by clinicians in primary care, emergency medicine, urgent care and specialty care, such as orthopedics.

FORTE Summer School
The FORTE Summer School this year takes place across 5 full days of lectures from 2 to 6 July in Milan with both a Comprehensive Review Course of knowledge for junior residents and an European Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology preparation course for residents approaching the exam. More than 26,000 children injured by hoverboards between 2015 and 2016
With the release of the hoverboard in 2015 came 26,854 injuries treated in United States EDs related to the product, with the most commonly affected area being the wrist, according to findings published in Pediatrics.

NEW ORLEANS — When hand surgeons repaired either one or two veins in conjunction with single-digit replants, fewer transfusions were required and there was better survivorship of the replants, according to a presenter from NYU Langone Health.
