Drop-jump landing performance linked with risk for ankle sprains in male soccer players
Mediolateral force over 0 to 0.4 seconds and/or a mean resultant horizontal ground-reaction force over 3 to 5 seconds after a single-legged drop-jump landing test may be able to predict the occurrence of an ankle sprain within three years in elite male soccer players.
Proceedings of 2018 International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection now available
The final consensus documents that resulted from the International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection, which was held July 25-27, 2018, in Philadelphia, are now available at the meeting’s website, which is ICMPhilly.com, and via the ICMPhilly app, according to Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS, of Philadelphia, who co-chaired the meeting with Thorsten Gehrke, MD, of Hamburg, Germany.

Systematic approach to episode of care requires physician insight
Despite efforts to control the price of procedures, implants and physician reimbursement, health care costs continue to increase. According to 2016-2025 Projections of National Health Expenditures Data from CMS, the U.S. spends $3.4 trillion on health care. This has now reached 17.8% of gross domestic product, which is projected to increase to 19.9% by 2025. There is constant pressure on all components of health care to control cost.
MRI abnormalities not always indicative of ankle ACI results
After patients underwent ankle autologous chondrocyte implantation, they had clinical improvements despite the presence of abnormalities on their MRIs.

Improvements in outcomes seen up to 2 years after total ankle arthroplasty
Improvements in overall sagittal plane range of motion were seen up to 6 months after total ankle arthroplasty, with improvements for measures pain and function seen up to 2 years, according to results published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
A 15-year-old patient with right ankle pain, difficulty walking uphill
A 15-year-old male patient presented with difficulty walking uphill during the past 2.5 years due to involuntary flexion of the first, second and third toes of his right foot and limited ankle dorsiflexion. He reported difficulty with other movements that require maximal ankle dorsiflexion, including deep squats. He had mild discomfort with these movements and noted bothersome callus formation occurred over the dorsal interphalangeal joint of the hallux and the distal plantar aspect of the first three toes. He had not received any treatment. The patient has a history of a right triplane ankle fracture with an associated fibula fracture that occurred approximately 3 years prior. At the time of injury, he underwent internal fixation through a medial approach to the tibia and lateral approach to the fibula.
