Results at 20-year follow-up support nonoperative ACL rupture treatment
At 2 decades after patients in a study with ACL rupture underwent operative or nonoperative treatment, researchers found no significant differences between the groups for the presence of knee osteoarthritis, functional outcomes and any meniscectomy surgery, according to results published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Cartilage lesions can be treated with HA-based scaffold with BMAC
Cartilage defects in the knee are frequently encountered during arthroscopic procedures; however, there are limited treatment options that can be used to regenerate durable repair tissue. Due to their simplicity, marrow stimulation techniques for cartilage repair, such as microfracture, have often been considered for preferential use, despite the numerous clinical outcome studies that have failed to demonstrate long-term benefit, particularly in larger cartilage lesions.

Patients with FAI, Tönnis grade 2 may have improvements after arthroscopic management
Patients with Tönnis grade 2 who underwent femoroacetabular impingement correction with arthroscopic management had statistically and clinically significant improvements in outcomes, as well as no significantly different patient-reported outcomes compared with those who had Tönnis grade 0 or 1, according to recently published results.
Arthroscopic stabilization in patients with glenoid bone erosion yielded satisfactory outcomes
Young patients with glenoid bone erosions of more than 20% and who underwent arthroscopic stabilization procedures for recurrent anterior shoulder instability experienced satisfactory clinical outcomes and recurrence rates, according to results. However, researchers noted these results were inferior when compared to patients with glenoid erosions of less than 20%.
Ceterix Orthopaedics receives FDA 510(k) clearance for suture cartridge for meniscal repair
Ceterix Orthopaedics Inc. announced it received FDA 510(k) clearance for the size 0 suture cartridge, an added feature for the NovoStitch Pro Meniscal Repair System, which will offer surgeons more options for repair of meniscal tears.
VIDEO: Durable cartilage repair possible at 1 year with HA-based scaffold
Shown is the one-step, dry arthroscopic surgical technique to implant the hyaluronic acid-based scaffold Hyalofast scaffold (Anika Therapeutics) in the right knee of a 56-year-old man with a right femoral condyle cartilage lesion. Also seen is the 1-year second-look arthroscopy performed as follow-up in the same patient.
Hip arthroscopy may improve patient-reported outcomes in recreational golfers
Recreational golfers who underwent hip arthroscopy for labral tears experienced significant improvement in patient-reported outcomes and a high rate of return to sport, according to results published in Orthopedics.
Arthroscopic bone grafting, K-wire fixation may effectively treat scaphoid nonunion
Results published in Medicine showed arthroscopic bone grafting and percutaneous K-wire fixation effectively treated scaphoid nonunion with thorough assessment and comprehensive management.
Tibial tubercle transfer improves patellar position and patellofemoral pain
Tibial tubercle osteotomy, which was popularized by John P. Fulkerson, MD, when used for anterior medialization, has dramatically changed how patellofemoral pain is treated. The goal of tibial tubercle transfer is to improve patellar position so it reduces patella alta and/or lateral patellar tracking (Figure 1).
Adequacy of deformity correction must be considered in arthroscopic vs open ankle arthrodesis, part 2
The appropriate indications for arthroscopic ankle fusion are debated. Studies have demonstrated low rates of nonunion and complications with the arthroscopic technique that are comparable to traditional open ankle fusion. Despite this, open approaches are widely used.
