The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Registry Program released its 2024 Shoulder & Elbow Registry annual report, according to a press release.

The fifth annual report from the AAOS includes data from 36,296 shoulder and elbow procedures, which were performed between 2015 and 2023 by 424 surgeons at 82 participating facilities.

A new feature to the 2024 report includes insights into 1,544 elbow procedures such as neuroplasty, transposition, radial head arthroplasty, implant and hardware removal and total elbow arthroplasty, according to the release.

The report includes data from 19,357 total shoulder arthroplasty procedures, as well as 15,376 rotator cuff procedures. The report also includes an analysis of patient-reported outcome measure tools such as the Veterans RAND 12-item health survey and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score.

“In 2024, we took important steps to reinforce the Shoulder & Elbow Registry’s role as a crucial resource for surgeons and hospitals,” Grant E. Garrigues, MD, FAAOS, chair of the steering committee for the registry, said in the release. “Enhancements to the RegistryInsights dashboard, including advanced data visualization and new report card features, have empowered participants with actionable outcomes data. These tools enable clinicians to refine treatment approaches, reduce complication rates and enhance patient outcomes.”
