The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery announced its board of directors and two director-elects for 2024 to 2025, according to a press release.

“Once again, the board has elected an outstanding group of officers,” David F. Martin, MD, executive director of the ABOS, said in the release. “They are all leaders in the field and the board is lucky to have them serve as they are all busy surgeons.”

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) announced Kevin L. Garvin, MD, as its president. Garvin is the L. Thomas Hood, MD, Professor and chair for the department of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska. He will serve a 1-year term.

Wayne J. Sebastianelli, MD, has been appointed vice president of the ABOS. Sebastianelli is the Kalenak Professor in Orthopaedics at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and medical director for Penn State Sports Medicine. He will serve a 1-year term.

Charles L. Nelson, MD, has been appointed president-elect of the ABOS. Nelson is the chief of adult reconstruction surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and a professor of orthopedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He will serve a 1-year term.

Lisa A. Taitsman, MD, MPH, has been appointed secretary of the ABOS. Taitsman is a professor of orthopedics and sports medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Kyle J. Jeray, MD, has been reelected as treasurer of the ABOS. Jeray is chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Prisma Health-Update. He will serve a 1-year term.

In addition, the ABOS elected Dawn M. LaPorte, MD, and Jennifer Moriatis Wolf, MD, PhD, as director-elects of the ABOS. LaPorte is a professor of orthopedic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Wolf is a professor and chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Chicago.

“The American Medical Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons both supplied outstanding slates of nominees from which the board could select,” Martin said. “LaPorte and Wolf bring a tremendous amount of energy and significant skills to the organization.”
