Key takeaways:

  • Understand the technical pearls of the Latarjet procedure to treat patients with shoulder instability.
  • Superior bone loss is the main concern.

WAILEA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Augustus D. Mazzocca, MD, discussed the technical pearls of the Latarjet procedure for patients with shoulder instability, bone loss and glenoid fractures.

“Some of the worry that we have is superior bone loss in [the shoulder area],” Mazzocca said. “That’s the main issue,” he added.

Mazzocca also discussed rehabilitation protocols for patients who underwent a Latarjet procedure.

“We place [the patient] in an external rotation sling, but we start range of motion early in these patients, so we can get them back as fast as possible,” he said.
