WAILEA, Hawaii — At Orthopedics Today Hawaii, John P. Fulkerson, MD, spoke to Anthony A. Romeo, MD, during a Facebook Live broadcast.

Fulkerson shared insights about his long career in orthopedic surgery, patellofemoral joint innovations and the importance of mentorship.

“It is wonderful to be able [to be a mentor]. Part of it is there are people who trust you, and that trust has to be earned. My father always said, ‘Listen to people, be on time, do the right thing, be kind to people and work hard.’ I try to follow my father’s advice. And fortunately, if you try to do the right thing, there are people around you who want to follow you. Some of those people are really good innovators and come up with good information, and that makes life exciting. I am still living that life.”
