Key takeaways:

  • Robotic-assisted and conventional total knee arthroplasties had no differences in early functional outcomes.
  • Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty had longer surgical time vs. conventional arthroplasty.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — In this video, Peter A. Gold, MD, discusses a randomized controlled trial that showed no significant differences in functional outcome scores between robotic-assisted and conventional total knee arthroplasty.

“We found there was no difference in early functional outcomes in terms of [timed]-up-and-go test and stair climbing test at 1 month and 6 months postoperatively between the groups,” Gold told Healio. “We did find that there was a statistically significant improvement in patient-reported outcomes, specifically the KOOS score for pain and symptoms at 1 month postoperatively, but by 6 months, there was no difference.”
