Key takeaways:
- Stemless anatomic shoulder arthroplasty may be linked with decreased rates of implant loosening and revisions.
- Stemless shoulder arthroplasty eliminates the need for a backup stemmed implant.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — In this video from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Annual Meeting, T. Bradley Edwards, MD, discussed the benefits of anatomic shoulder arthroplasty with stemless implants.
“We’ve been doing this for 2 years, and in every single case, we’ve been able to implant a stemless anatomic implant and have had zero cases of loosening and no revision for humeral problems,” he said. “The old plan of always having to have a stemmed implant available if you’re going to do a stemless anatomic [arthroplasty] is going by the wayside,” Edwards added.
