Key takeaways:

  • Most patients in the telerehabilitation group crossed over to in-office rehabilitation.
  • Patients commonly cited needing a hands-on approach and more equipment for their switch to in-office rehabilitation.

WASHINGTON — In this video, Kirk A. Campbell, MD, FAAOS, discusses patient satisfaction for telerehabilitation vs. in-office rehabilitation following rotator cuff repair and ACL reconstruction surgery.

“After we did our initial analysis, we found that, ubiquitously, [telerehabilitation] patients crossed over to the in-person rehab group,” Campbell said about a study presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting.

“Although we do strongly believe that telerehabilitation has an important role to play in sports medicine, we believe that more of a hybrid approach should be considered as was evidenced by the fact that we had such a large crossover in the study,” he added. “The most common reasons why patients crossed over were that they felt they needed more hands-on [rehabilitation] and a lack of equipment, as well.”
