NEW ORLEANS — In this video, Kenneth R. Zaslav, MD, provides an update on the accomplishments of the Biologic Association from 2022 to 2023.
According to Zaslav, the Biologic Association has hosted several meetings and symposia, including a joint symposium with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, joint specialty day with the Arthroscopy Association of North America and a meeting with the FDA to discuss real-world evidence and use of registries to track outcomes of biologics. The society is also slated to host a meeting regarding how physicians should prepare biologics on July 12 in Washington, D.C., prior to the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting.
Zaslav added the Biologic Association received an influx of new members, including those from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the Italian Society of Arthroscopy, Knee, Upper Limb, Sport, Cartilage and Orthopaedic Technologies.
“We are the only group looking at biologics that has both orthopedic surgery societies, as well as nonoperative societies to try to bring everyone together to look at the data and make appropriate consensus statements,” Zaslav, co-chair of the Biologic Association, director of the Center for Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital and professor at Hofstra University – Northwell, told Healio.
