The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has announced a call for proposals to its inspiring diversity, equity and access grant program, according to a press release.
The inspiring diversity, equity and access (IDEA) grant program is a multi-year program that focuses on the development of resources and initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion across orthopedics. The IDEA grant program will allocate $300,000 to support educational, community and outreach programs.
“The AAOS launched the IDEA grant program in 2022 with the goal of igniting meaningful, lasting and measurable change across orthopedics,” Anthony E. Johnson, MD, FAAOS, chair of the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board, said in the release. “We saw a genuine desire from last year's applicants to address the gaps across gender, culture and ethnicity in our field. And, while we understand it is going to take time to break down barriers, we look forward to building on the momentum and believe that this call for proposals will help ensure funding can flow directly to the programs and organizations that need it most,” Johnson said.
The application deadline for grant proposals is June 19.
