LAS VEGAS — In this video from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Jon J.P. Warner, MD, FAAOS, discussed the association between surgeon annual volume and revision surgery after total shoulder arthroplasty.

“It’s difficult for patients to know who really is an expert, because we don’t have transparency in health care. It’s clear the experience surgeons have and the volume of procedures that they do directly correlate with the safety of an operation,” Warner said. “There are new technologies that are being applied for education, including virtual reality training and things of that nature, that may be able to lower the time it takes to become an expert,” he added.
