LAS VEGAS — In this video from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Andrew J. Schoenfeld, MD, discussed the cost-utility benefits of robotic assistance for adult spinal deformity procedures.
“The robot can be deployed in any setting, but it should be done judiciously. If these are procedures where there’s a low likelihood of complication or malposition hardware, etc., it may be best to reserve the robot for other procedures,” Schoenfeld said. “But when we’re talking about complex adult deformity surgery [with] dysplastic posterior elements and pedicles, it can be effective in ensuring an efficient and safe procedure for patients, which is of course of paramount importance,” he added.
