American Orthopaedic Association endorses International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance
The American Orthopaedic Association has announced an endorsement and commitment to the principles of the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance for diversity, equity and inclusion in orthopedics, according to a press release.
The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) will become official signatories of the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance (IODA) charter and collaborate for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, according to the release.

“The International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance is dedicated to building a global orthopedic culture in which everyone can thrive,” Wayne J. Sebastianelli, MD, FAOA, president of the AOA, said in the release. “AOA is proud to endorse IODA, reinforcing our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the profession,” he added.
“The IODA was founded to improve diversity efforts within all aspects of orthopedics,” Matthew R. Schmitz, MD, FAAOS, FAOA, FAAP, second-vice president of the IODA, said in the release. “We applaud the AOA for signing on to our charter and showing their commitment to diversity, not just in words, but in measurable actions,” Schmitz said.
