SAN FRANCISCO — In this video from the Arthroscopy Association of North America Annual Meeting, Eoghan T. Hurley, MBBCh, MCh, discusses results on clinical outcomes and return to play rates following osteochondral allograft transplantation.

Among the 103 athletes who received an osteochondral allograft transplantation, Hurley noted athletes experienced a slight decrease in Tegner score from 7 preoperatively to 5 postoperatively, on average. Hurley said 67% of athletes were able to return to the same sport they were participating in prior to injury. Of the athletes able to return to the same sport, half reported being able to compete at the same level as preoperatively, according to Hurley.

“The majority of those who were unable to return cited pain as their primary limiting factor, with physical inability being another cause alongside fear of reinjury,” Hurley told Healio. “This is important to note why athletes don’t return and something to look at going forward rather than just rates of return.”
