CHICAGO — In this video from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Martha Shadan, president and CEO of Miach Orthopaedics, discussed the BEAR implant for patients with ACL tears.

“What we are seeing has surpassed our expectation in terms of surgeons adopting and using the BEAR implant,” Shadan told Healio Orthopedics.

“Standard treatment replaces the ACL. So [surgeons] go in, they remove the torn ACL, and they harvest a graft from another part of the leg or they use tissue from a deceased donor,” she said. “We’re different. What we do is we restore the native ACL. We bridge the gap with our BEAR implant. We add some autologous blood from the patients intraoperatively,” Shadan added.
