At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, VirtaMed debuted enhanced simulation training modules for arthroscopic knee surgeries with two skin tones, according to a press release.
The new training modules come from a collaborative agreement between VirtaMed and the Arthroscopic Association of North America to advance and improve arthroscopy surgery training, according to the release.
“It is important to learn medical skills in a realistic environment, and that means training on simulators that reflect the diversity of both patients and trainee physicians,” Raimundo Sierra, PhD, founder and CEO of VirtaMed, said in the release. “VirtaMed is committed to encouraging diversity and inclusion in the education of medical skills, and we believe these values should also be reflected in the simulator hardware. This is just one step in the right direction toward more equitable health care education and delivery,” Sierra said.
