Smith & Nephew has announced expanded indication of its CORI surgical system, a handheld robotic surgery solution currently indicated for total knee arthroplasty, to now include total hip arthroplasty, according to a press release.

The RI.Hip Navigation, designed for use with Smith & Nephew’s CORI surgical system, will allow surgeons to utilize robotic assistance for component alignment during THA procedures, according to the release.

“The addition of RI.Hip Navigation on the CORI system further strengthens Smith & Nephew’s Real Intelligence digital ecosystem and underscores our commitment to advancing clinical outcomes in THA,” Randy Kilburn, executive vice president and general manager of reconstruction, robotics and digital surgery for Smith & Nephew, said in the release. “We look forward to offering the possibility of further improving patient outcomes and satisfaction to a broader surgeon community with the rapidly expanding adoption of our CORI surgical system.”

According to the release, software installations will begin immediately in select hospitals and ASCs with broad commercial availability later in 2022.
